Afair under the water

Onboard the nuclear submarine “Poseidon”, where the crew consisted exclusively of men, life followed strict rules. Hierarchy was sacred, and discipline was the foundation. General Karol Wiśniewski, the commander of the submarine, was a principled man who commanded the respect of his crew. His authority was unquestioned—until the day a young cook, Andrzej “Andy” Kowalski, joined the team.

Andrzej had a true talent for cooking. His meals were not only nutritious but also delicious, which felt like a miracle in the metallic, claustrophobic confines of the submarine. His sausages became legendary among the crew. General Wiśniewski particularly enjoyed them, especially when served with Andy’s homemade mayonnaise. The general, who usually avoided social interactions, began visiting the kitchen more often under the pretense of “inventory inspections.”

Over time, the relationship between the general and the cook grew closer. In secret, they began meeting in the general’s cabin during the evenings. Andrzej was captivated by the attention from the general and believed their bond was something special. The general, although outwardly serious, enjoyed this small escape from the rigid daily routine.

However, Andrzej soon discovered something that shook his faith in their relationship. While cleaning the mess hall one day, he overheard a conversation between two sailors reminiscing about how the general had once praised the sausages prepared by the previous cook, Zygmunt, whom Andrzej had replaced. “And always with his favorite mayonnaise!” one of them laughed. Andrzej felt a surge of fury.

“I’m not the first?!” he thought angrily. The general, whom he thought was devoted only to him, apparently had a long-standing fondness for sausages and mayonnaise, regardless of who made them. He felt betrayed and humiliated. A seed of revenge began to grow in his heart.

The Sabotage Plan

Andrzej decided to use mayonnaise—the symbol of his perceived betrayal—as his weapon. He prepared a special batch, adding a substance that would cause mild but uncomfortable stomach issues. He wanted the general to suffer just enough to realize the consequences of his “disloyalty.”

The next day, during dinner, the general requested his favorite sausages with mayonnaise. Andrzej served the dish with a smile. The crew, unaware of the cook’s plan, watched as the general ate with gusto. However, an hour later, during a meeting with the officers, the general suddenly felt unwell. He had to cut the meeting short and retreat to his cabin, causing quite a stir.

An Unexpected Ending

Andrzej’s plan seemed perfect, but fate had other ideas. The general quickly realized that his condition was no coincidence. He summoned Andrzej for a conversation. The cook, trembling with both fear and anger, confessed everything—his jealousy, feelings of betrayal, and even his plan for revenge.

To his surprise, the general did not get angry. Instead, he smiled and said, “Andrzej, it was never just about the sausages or mayonnaise. It was about you. You’ve brought something special to this submarine. But if you ever try to poison me again, I’ll send you to clean the nuclear reactor.”

Embarrassed, Andrzej promised to change his ways. From that day on, their relationship became more honest, and the cook, having understood his mistakes, prepared sausages with even greater dedication. As for the general, though he never said it outright, he stopped ordering mayonnaise to avoid any further misunderstandings.
